Janet is a rare find: a healthcare practitioner who is passionate, really smart and infinitely curious.

Janet has the gift of listening deeply to her client, her client's body and her own wisdom each step of the way.

The shifts and balance which I experience with each session reflect her incredible commitment to the work and to me.

ABOUT ME. JANET WALKER

As an osteopathic manual practitioner (D.O.M.P.), I use my hands-on expertise to help you feel better. I am a graduate of the Canadian College of Osteopathy (2007) and have been practicing manual therapy for almost 20 years. I combine strong intuitive skills, an inquisitive nature, and a thorough understanding of health sciences. This allows me to recognize the impact of your unique physical, mental and emotional experiences on your health. The only D.O.M.P. in Canada certified as a Restorative Exercise™ Specialist (RES); I also offer alignment and movement education.

I spent 10 busy years in advertising after graduating with a business degree from the University of Western Ontario. My passion for health and fitness inspired me to become both an aqua-fit and ski instructor. After years of debating chiropractic versus naturopathic medicine as a second career, I discovered osteopathy. My decision was made.

As a prerequisite to osteopathy, I studied massage therapy at Kikkawa College and craniosacral therapy with the Upledger Institute. I then enrolled in the Canadian College of Osteopathy’s five-year post-graduate program. Initially working as an RMT while studying I opened my own practice in 2003 to transition from massage to osteopathy.

After the five years of course work, I conducted an experimental research study, “The Effect of Osteopathic Treatment during Pregnancy on the Outcomes of Labour and Delivery". The women I treated underwent significantly fewer medical interventions than the untreated control group. This completed the requirements for my Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (D.O.M.P.).

I have continued my learning with many specialty courses, including paediatrics, obstetrics and athlete’s care with leading osteopaths from Canada, France, the U.S. and U.K. Most recently I completed my Restorative Exercise Specialist™ and Healthy Foot Practitioner certifications with the Restorative Exercise Institute.

Over the years, I have stayed fit and sustained numerous injuries with a variety of physical activities including triathlon, yoga, pilates, skiing, whitewater kayaking, even hockey. I try to practice what I preach and strive for balance in my own life. I’m an avid reader, enjoy cooking and have shifted my focus to staying healthy with natural movement - plenty of walking and keeping up with my very energetic Boston Terrier, Cadeau.
